Calling All Northerners Who are Now Floridians

You’ve done it! You’ve made the move to Florida

You’ve exchanged snow for sandy beaches.

When I first moved down here in 2005, I expected living in Florida to be like vacationing here.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

As a result, my partner and I made mistakes – A LOT of mistakes.  We probably made more than our fair share of mistakes.  Worst of all, we made some really EXPENSIVE mistakes.

Looking back, most of the mistakes we made could have avoided if we had been Florida Fluent.  By that I mean fluent in the ways of living in Florida.  When you’re Florida Fluent, you’ve learned those seemingly minor things you MUST know if you’re going to survive for long down here.

It took us more than a decade to get to the point where we weren’t constantly learning “the hard way” how to live here.

When I first moved down here, I made a promise to myself that when I felt like I was Florida Fluent, I’d write a book to help others avoid making the expensive mistakes we did.

As I was writing the book , I started talking to my friends about it.   They not only thought it was a great idea, they started sharing their own Florida Fluent survival tips.

I’m still in the process of writing the book.  If you’d like to be included,  this is your chance to share YOUR story.

What do you wish you’d known before you moved down here?   What do you wish you’d known before packing up and moving down here?

I’d love to get your input.

KT moved with her partner, 3 children, 2 cats and 2 dogs to the southeastern coast of Florida in 2005. All of us (the humans at least) thought we were embarking on a new life in paradise. One filled with sun and fun. It didn't take long for this family of northern transplants to discover that living in Florida is dramatically different than it is in the northern states. We made mistakes - a LOT of them. Some were financially devastating, but we hung in there. All these years later, we're all older, wiser and loving living in this tropical paradise.
